ADULT: Wingspan - 25 - 35mm. The ground colour is of a pale orange with a darker band towards the trailing edge which contains various subtle hues of pink. The wings are crossed by wavy orange lines and the orbicular and kidney marks are outlined in the same orange shade. CHRYSALIS: Hibernates in this stage. LARVA: Feeds on flowers of Restharrow. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and sugar. HABITAT: Coastal on calcerous soils. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. June to July. STATUS: Common resident in Southern Britain.
